It was fantastic to see everyone who was able to make it to our May guild meeting!
Our May Meeting Speaker
Kristen Shuler was our guest speaker at the Kaufman Foundation. She talked about her business, Hey Paul Studios and Eat, Drink, Stitch. She gave us a fascinating background of her history is social work, focused on medical science, and how that inspired her creative works. You can learn more about Kristen at Hey Paul and Eat Drink Stitch.
You can catch her second workshop on Thursday, and there are still spots open (details below)! The next meeting will be Thursday, June 9th at 7pm, at Roeland Park Community Center (4850 Rosewood Drive, Roeland Park KS, 66205) featuring guest speaker Kelsey Pike. You can find out more about Kelsey and her design process on her website.
BUSINESS UPDATES
Guild Resource Page
We are adding a guild resource page to the website. Once a year we will update the page to represent creative offerings within our guild members – long armers, fabric shops, etc. This page will be updated annually in May. Wednesday Share Day on Facebook will continue to be our location to announce sales and other community events. If you are a member and would add your creative business to this page, please fill out this form. Thank you!
Social Media
Our social media presence has expanded! In addition to our members only Facebook page and Flickr, where we feature Show and Tell, we are on Twitter and Instagram. Both will allow us to be more involved in the quilting community and other MQGs, and Instagram will be additionally used to show off the work of our guild members.
Our Twitter handle is @KCModernQG and Instagram is @KCMQG.
We will only repost Instagram pictures with permission from the original photo owner.
Sewing Machine Raffle
Myron from Windmill Sewing generously donated a Brother Sewing Machine (valued at close to $900) to our guild! His expressed purpose was for us to use it as a fundraiser to benefit the guild.
We will be conducting raffle, with the proceeds of ticket sales being used for a guild quilt show. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased here. The last day to buy tickets will be the Monday before our next meeting (June 6th) and tickets must be paid for by Wednesday (June 8th). We hope Myron will be present to draw the winning ticket at June’s meeting. The more virtual tickets you purchase, the more opportunities you have to win. You do not have to be present to win. Member Contacts Our 2016-2017 Member Contacts have been added to the MQG website; please note, only those who said we may share this information within the guild is listed. These contacts may not be used for business purposes nor be distributed; this is only for guild-related information only.
