Hello KCMQG members!   Our latest guild meeting was held on November 12, 2015 at the Roeland Park Community Center.

OFFICER TEAM & COMMITTEE CHAIRS There will be opportunities to become a committee chair or a member of the board in 2016.  If you are interested in becoming a leader within the guild, please let us know!  Please reach out to us at the guild email account ([email protected]) for more information.

KANSAS CITY REGIONAL QUILT FESTIVAL The results of the survey will be posted to the MQG Community site soon.     If we participate as a guild, we need someone to represent the guild at KCRQF meetings.  If you’re interested in being this person, please send an email to the guild account ([email protected]).

CHARITY PROJECTS
Stuffed Animals Project: This year we’ll be creating stuffed animals to donate to the KCK Police Department.  These stuffed animals we will be donating will be taken by police officers and given to children who are in scary situations.  This could be domestic violence, car accidents, or any other situation where receiving something special could help a child cope with something that could be very frightening.  Kristin Marciniak has started two pinterest boards where you can find patterns or tutorials for projects that would be appropriate for this charity program.  KCMQG Plushie Patterns (FREE) and KCMQG Plushie Patterns (Paid).  The first collection for this project will take place at the December meeting.     The community service comittee will also be collecting throw size quilts for the KCK police department.  These will go to the victim’s advocate service, which will pair people who have been through trauma with a quilt.  These quilts should be big enough to wrap around yourself when you are cold/scared, but not big enough to cover a bed.  These will will be going to people of all ages.  If you have a quilt ready to go, please contact Jacquie Gering.

CHALLENGES & SWAPSClue Challenge The reveal for the Clue challenge happened at the last meeting.  The winners were chosen by the contestants who had the most matching elements to the cards drawn.  The three winners of the challenge were Stephanie Dodson, Kristin Marciniak, and Angela Garrison.   One Hour-Basket Holiday Swap

  • Participants will be asked to make a One Hour Basket using a given fat quarter as the lining.
  • They can make the outside and handles out of coordinating fabric(s).  It may be pieced, appliquéd,  embellished, or left plain.
  • Pattern for the “1 Hour Basket” can be found here.
  • December meeting: Bring back finished basket filled with a small gift ($10.00ish).  Wrap the whole thing up and include a tag wihich includes To: and From: information.

Swap-a-Rama Have fabric that you’d like to trade?  Bring it to the December guild meeting for Swap-a-rama!  Bring your scraps in a Ziploc bag (quart to gallon size) & check them in before the meeting.  You’ll be given a ticket that will correspond to one of the tables set up within the room.  When it’s time to swap, go to the table your ticket corresponds with & the moderator will announce that the swap is open.  You’ll be broken into groups alphabetically by last name and given 3 minutes to find the Ziploc bag you’d like to take.

BUDGET Maggie Aisenbrey motioned to approve the proposed 2016 budget.  Jan Durham seconded that motion.  The guild unanimously approved the proposed budget.

GO! CUTTER The guild recently acquired a GO! Cutter and an assortment of dies to use with it.  This will be available for our members to use at retreats and sew days.  If you’d like to see which dies the guild owns, how big to precut fabric, and other useful information about the GO! cutter, you can find a spreadsheet with this information on the guild’s Facebook page.
