We had a wonderful meeting with Melissa Averinos for our October meeting with he trunk show and beautiful art. She shared her story and personal struggle with depression and anxiety and how art, including quilting, has helped her. She showed pictures of her process, art, and quilts. If you didn’t get a chance to follow her, do it now by visiting her website and Instagram! #weirdcatsforever
Check out some of the progress from her two day workshop for our members!
Tia Curtis was our sponsor for the meeting and had many lovelies for sale. Our next meeting is Thursday, November 10th, at the Kaufman Foundation Center. Mary Fons will be our guest speaker with two programs:
1:30-3:30 pm (room opens at 1 pm for social time) Trunk Show at Kaufman Foundation Center, Kansas City Room.
7 pm (room opens at 6:30 pm for social time): Lecture at the November Guild Meeting at Kaufman Foundation Center, Town Square Room, and we will vote to pass the proposed 2017 budget.
2017 BUDGET PROPOSAL Our budget for 2017 was proposed at the October meeting. The budget proposal and outline of changes from 2016 are attached! Please reply with any questions you may have and we will be happy to answer them. Due to the time constraints of the November meeting with Mary Fons, we would appreciate questions be asked before the meeting so we do not delay our guest speaker.
LIBRARY REQUESTS If you’d like to request a book or two that you think would make an excellent addition to the guild library, please look to your member email for the link to the request form. We will continue to keep this form active for future requests as well!
HOLIDAY STOCKING “SWAP” This year we are going to make holiday stockings, fill them and donate them to the Wyandotte County Juvenile Intake Assessment Center for the teenagers who are often overlooked during the holiday season. · Stocking pattern and directions are from American Patchwork & Quilting – December 2014 issue. · We want the stocking pattern to be used so that all the stockings are the same size, but that is the only requirement. · Stocking pattern pieces and instructions will be available at the October and November KCMQG meetings. The stocking pattern and instructions are also attached! · Stockings will be shown and collected at the December 8th KCMQG meeting.
Guideline details and a submission form are attached to your member email.
SCHOLARSHIP + GRANT COMMITTEE 2016 was our pilot year with this addition to our budget and we awarded two $500 scholarships to KCAI students for summer enrichment. The recipients will be visiting us at a meeting and sharing what they learned.
For 2017, we are modifying the funds to include grants for guild members to continue arts and quilting education beyond what the guild is able to provide. The committee will propose how to divide the funds (with scholarship/grants to textile students and guild members) and oversee the processes of applying, awarding, and sharing back with the guild.
We plan to have the proposal ready of how the funds will be used before the 2017 Budget Vote at our November meeting. NEWS FROM MQG
The MQG Book submissions are open. Learn more here. (Sign-ups close on October 31st.)
