Hello KCMQGers! This Thursday, at our guild meeting, we will have a special speaker for you! Penny from sewtakeahike will be talking about paper piecing and have a trunk show of some of her work to share with us. Penny’s work is well-known in the infamous Ringo Pie bee on Flickr.
Here’s a little background info on Penny: I love to create by sewing, baking, and crocheting. Being outdoors is also a passion of mine whether I’m hiking, backpacking, kayaking or skiing. No matter what the current activity is, however, there are surely some photos being taken to document it. Come rain, snow, sleet or sun-shine, I drink an iced toffee nut latte’ every morning made with my Stella. I live in Fort Collins, Colorado with L-man, my husband of 17 years, and our cat “Fozzy.” Although I’m not a cat-person, I sure do love that little guy! A dear friend describes me as “old country style with a modern bend,” and I tend to agree!
Please come join us Thursday night from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Roeland Park Community Center to hear Penny talk and see her incredible work!

TAKE A WORKSHOP WITH PENNY
Penny is giving several paper piecing workshops this weekend. We still have a few spots open in the Friday classes and one spot open in the Saturday class. Penny is a genius at paper piecing — you will love learning from her! To sign up for a spot, please email us. Signup is first come first served.
Paper Piecing Basics $18 for members | $23 for non members
Friday, June 14, 10 am – 1 pm
Quilting Bits and Pieces, 736 Main St., Eudora, KS
Penny will teach a beginner pattern and give helpful techniques and tips.
Freezer Paper Piecing by Template $18 for members | $23 for non members
Friday, June 14, 2 pm – 5pm
Quilting Bits and Pieces, 736 Main St., Eudora, KS
Penny will teach a beginner freezer paper pattern. Knowing how to use freezer paper templates in conjunction with paper piecing will help to make paper piecing easier and give options for fussy cutting and pressing seams open which will give a flatter block.
Foundation Pieced Design $40 for members | $50 for non members Saturday, June 15, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Roeland Park Community Center, Multipurpose Room
Penny will teach two Y seams and two curved seams (having this knowledge will make designing much easier) in the morning and begin to talk about design. In the afternoon, the students will complete a couple of design worksheets and start to create and sew their own designs. You must have either have experience with paper piecing or have taken Friday’s classes to enroll in this class.
