Hello KCMQG members!

Our latest guild meeting was held on June 11, 2015 at the Roeland Park Community Center.  Angela Pingel was our guest speaker.  She spoke about her sewing story & shared a plethora of quilts.  If you missed the meeting or would like to see the quilts again, you can find them on our flickr page.
KCRQF
The quilt show committee is still looking for a few volunteers to work at the guild’s booth at the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival.  Shifts will be 2 hours long and we will have 2 members working for each shift.  The quilt festival hours are:

  • Friday, June 19, 2015: 10am – 6pm
  • Saturday, June 20, 2015: 10am – 6pm
  • Sunday, June 21, 2015: 10am – 3pm

We also need help setting up the booth, tearing it down, and transporting the 4’x8′ panels that make up the walls.

If you are interested in working in the booth, contact Mary Hunt to sign up. Email her at [email protected] or call 816.835.8122.

FRACTAL RADIANCE CHALLENGE PICK-UP
If you participated in the Fractal Radiance challenge and the guild is using your project in the booth at the KCRQF, you have 3 options for picking up your project.
  1. Pick it up at the KCRQF on Sunday, June 21 after the festival is over at 3pm.  You’ll need to bring ID.
  2. Pick it up at CPS at 11870 W. 91st Street, Overland Park, KS 66214 between June 22nd and July 2nd.  This is Deneen Slack’s workplace near I-35 & 95th Street, close to Oak Park Mall.  She’s available 8:30 – 4:30, Monday-Friday.  Her phone number is (913) 307-9250.
  3. Pick it up at the August KCMQG meeting.
JULY MEETING AT THE T-BONES GAME

We won’t be holding a normal July meeting.  Instead, we’ll be heading to the T-Bones game on Sunday, July 19th.  Bring a quilt & your famiy and join us on the lawn for the 5:05 game.  The tickets to get into the game are $6.50 per person ahead of time or $7.50 per person at the gate.  Visit here to purchase your general admission tickets.

INVENTORY
If you are in possession of any guild purchased items, please let us know.  We are missing some hooks and other items that have been used at past quilt shows.  We’d like to gather all of the guild belongings and do a proper inventory.  We are looking at storage and location options and this would be helpful in making an informed decision.
CHARITY PROJECTS
Harvesters:
Members of the guild will be volunteering at Harvesters on Tuesday, June 30th.  If you’re interested in participating, please let Kristin Marciniak know you’ll be coming by sending her an email at [email protected] by Saturday, June 27.  Plan to be at Harvesters (3801 Topping Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64129) by 5:30 for a brief meeting.  The volunteering will take place from 6:00 – 8:00.  More specific instructions will come through email.
Quilt Con Charity Quilt:
The theme of this year’s charity quilt project for QuiltCon 2016 is “Improv with Intent.”  If you’re interested in contributing to this project, make a strata to turn in at the October guild meeting.  The rules are:

  1. Pick one color as your focus.  Color choices are: white, off-white, sunflower, tomato red, light teal, grey, and black.
  2. Create an improv strata with solids and prints.
  3. Make sure prints and accent colors only include colors in our palette.
  4. Strata should be at least 12″x12″, but can be bigger.
AUGUST MEETING – LONGARM SHOWCASE

If you own a longarm business and are interested in participating in our showcase, please email the guild at: kcmodernquiltguild@gmail.com.  We have room for two more participants at this time.  If you’ve already contacted us about being a part of this, we’re still working on the details and you’ll be hearing from us soon.  This meeting will take place at the Roeland Park Community Center.
